There’s a special magic to the early Selmer Cigar Cutters. This one is from 1931, the first year for them. The sound of these horns is bigger and fatter than their latter brothers – the SBA and Mark VI – and in fact, they kind of remind me of a Conn. Maybe that’s why Jerry Bergonzi plays them.
This one is in great shape for its age. It has been re-lacquered but it was done really well and the engraving is still nice. The neck has no pull down. The horn will benefit from a rebuild as the pad job is pretty old. But I am really excited about the potential. After a fresh rebuild, I think it’ll blow the doors down. I can add the cost of an overhaul to the sale price. It will come with a Protec case or can be upgraded to the case of your choice.
