Vintage Special-Made For Dick Stabile
These were made especially for Dick Stabile as a mouthpiece line by the Woodwind Company of New York. This is a real gem of a piece, if you are looking for that vintage tone without spending thousands on other brands.
Dick Stabile was an accomplished alto saxophonist of the Big Band era, associated with many of the top bandleaders of the day. This mouthpiece was manufactured presumably using the facing and chamber specs he preferred.
The band around the shank is original, silver plated, and came standard. It played extremely well, and the facing was just perfectly applied.
It was also a very, very dark playing mouthpiece, probably due to the clarinet-like square throat in the chamber, and had a pretty narrow tip opening, under .070".
The tip was opened to .080 by Doc Tenney.
